In 2012, Splash launched its hygiene education program in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, building on its work to provide clean, safe drinking water.
Today, they've reached nearly 60,000 kids, including...
Selam.
[Selam's father]: We are a family of seven. Selam is the youngest of all.
[Selam]: My name is Selamawit Mekbeb and I am 14 years old. I have been a member of the hygiene club for two years. After receiving the training, me and my friends are more conscious about our personal hygiene like washing our hands before eating food.
[Selam's father]: After Selam attended a school hygiene training by Splash she made the whole household toilet and showers be cleaned. She even posted hygiene messages in our house. Every morning before she goes to school, she tells everyone to wash their hands with soap.
[Habtamu Berhanu]: My name is Habtamu Berhanu. I have worked at Salayish school for five years. Splash is doing a great job at our school. In recent days, our campus is more beautiful and hygienic because of the work of Splash. As a biology teacher, I believe that the hygiene club is encouraging my students to apply what they have learned in class practically and teaches students handwashing practices and the importance of doing it. The club members are doing a great job and their efforts are recognized at our school. Especially, Selam's involvement with Splash has sparked her interest and strong desire to learn biology.
[Selam]: When I grow up, I want to be a doctor. There are a lot of people who need care [in Addis Ababa]. I want other schools to be beneficiaries of clean water and hygiene education.
